5 Essential Teeth-Cleaning Products When You Have Bracers or Aligners
Traveling between places and need some dental hygiene? No problem. All you’ll need is a small toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste.
But what if you’re on the go and have aligners or braces?
More often than not, you’ll find good old toothbrush and toothpaste inadequate. Newer dental appliances such as clear braces and products such as Invisalign will require proper care.
The next time you pack your bags, suitcase or carry-ons, don’t forget these essential items. Check out these must-haves for cleaning teeth with Bracers or Aligners when you’re on the go.
Floss
Your dentist will tell you to brush two to three times a day and floss daily. This practice carries over when you’re on bracers as well.
It’s important to eliminate plaque and small debris in-between the teeth and arch wire area. A floss is great because it can clear that and take care of your gumline as well. For brace users, it’s good practice to bring a floss threader if the floss product isn’t pre-threaded.
The most convenient ones to use are travel floss products. They will have extra features such as mint flavors and single-use packets.
Interproximal Brush
This is a handy device that you can carry with you wherever you go. The specially-made brush can remove food that’s stuck in-between your pearly whites. Not only that, but it can work around the brackets and the arch wire.
Moreover, interproximal brushes can eliminate plaque buildup, resulting in a brighter smile. Like your special brush so much? Your dentist will probably let you use it long after you’re done with the orthodontic treatment.
Toothpaste
Toothpaste can come in many different sizes and kinds.
While on the move, you will need a smaller tube for more convenience. Choose your preferred brand and the speciality. Will you need one for sensitive teeth? Or do you want maximum cavity or enamel protection?
Mirror
You can’t rely on always having a mirror on hand when you’re brushing. In this case, it’s best to bring along a compact mirror so you can do your teeth-cleaning ritual to the fullest. A pocket or compact mirror should be good enough for that twice-a-day brushing habit.
You can also use the mirror to see if there’s still debris stuck between your gums, teeth or bracers. Alternately, you can use your mobile phone’s front camera in a pinch.
Water
This might seem like a given, but don’t underestimate its importance. You can swill with water if there’s not a bathroom to be found after eating. The liquid dislodges bits of food, plaque and beverage out your mouth.
It’s best to gargle with water right after drinking an acidic beverage such as soda, orange juice and the like. Keep in mind that this is only a temporary solution. When you have access to your toothbrush or floss, take them out and give your pearly whites a thorough cleaning.
These are the basics of teeth cleaning when you have bracers or aligners. Consider home dental kits, orthodontic wax and pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen as well, especially if you’re having teeth problems.
